revolution charlotte

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone in case anyone's celebrating on a Monday. That means summer is almost here right (at least it's your first chance to enjoy a tasty frozen beverage)? I have to apologize for Revolution Charlotte's hiatus from updating, but I managed to download a virus onto our laptop that we record services on and do all of our updates from. So although I can stumble through coding a website it proves I don't really know a thing about computers.
During our online break the staff of Revolution has been busy planning an event for late July called Punk Rock and Scissors Fest. In cooperation with The World Famous Milestone Club and Dead Bodies Don't Drown, a clothing company based here in Charlotte, we're sponsoring an all-day punk rock festival. We feel it's a great way to bring together the community and host an all-ages show with some great local bands. Still in the process of finalizing the day's line up we're not leaking any details just yet, but you can stay updated through the fest's myspace page. Also this summer, Revolution will be involved in Pride Charlotte. Like last year we're planning to host a booth to give out information on the church and have our merchandise available. Anyone that volunteered their time last year knows what a great time we had meeting people and being able to tell them no matter what they'd heard in the past that God truly loves them. As we have details for Pride we'll be passing those along to you, but if you want to know how to help with either of these events please email us at revolutioncharlotte@hotmail.com or contact us through our myspace page.
Also, I know we're a little behind on the audio, but bear with us as we get our computer repaired - we'll get caught back up soon. We do have one new service though we were able to salvage. On March 9 Jonathan spoke on "Defending Your Faith" and personally I believe it was a talk worth waiting for. You'll find it like always on our media page as well as itunes. Enjoy. Keep Fighting. Viva la Revolution!
Stephanie

Well, we had a great Easter service at Revolution, and we hope all of you enjoyed the holiday as well. It's no secret that none of us are fans of tradition, but we celebrated with a very meaningful (and traditional) service, complete with communion led by Heather Openshaw. Oddly enough, so did Revolution New York...
We have new audio posted on the media page, as well as an updated itunes page. We're going to try and make these updates more consistent, as well as increase our online presence in general, so look out, we're not only taking over your favorite bar, but your computer as well.
In other news, Loy Adkins, our favorite intern, will be speaking this Sunday for our 4pm service. Come out and show your support, because we're excited to have him speaking for us. Hope to see you then.
Grace.

And now for your viewing and listening pleasure...
New audio is posted on the media page as well as itunes. On 2.17.08 Jennifer gave some new insight to a familiar story. Give it a listen and learn a thing or two...
Our calendar for the next few weeks has been updated. Heather Openshaw, seminary student, booking agent, and newest member of the Revolution family, will be speaking on Easter Sunday (that's two weeks from yesterday folks) and Loy Adkins, our hard-working intern will be sharing on April 6th. Save those dates, because we especially hope to see you then.
Finally, I just wanted to share a few photos of Britni and Jennifer's wedding, courtesy of Reed E. Campbell, II. To view more photos from the day's events, click here.

If you missed yesterday, you missed out. Jonathan and I had the pleasure of performing one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever seen. If you however, weren't able to attend Britni and Jennifer's commitment ceremony we'll have a photo or two for you soon.
Also, some website updates. The new staff page is officially up and running and two services are available for download.
Here's hoping March is treating you well.
Grace.

Here's a bit of news for you...
Revolution Charlotte has made an addition to its staff - Loy Adkins. Loy is attending Gardner-Webb University, the same college I completed my bachelor's at. One of his requirements for graduation is an internship, and guess where he's chosen to do that...Loy will be working with us for the next twelve weeks speaking, helping to set up for our services, and planning some events outside of our 4pm meeting time. We're excited to have Loy lending his talents and education to help us for not only the length of his intership, but hopefully long after that. A re-vamp of the staff page is in order because of recent changes, I know, and we're working on an overhaul of that for you.
Next, we have some new audio. Chip's talk, "My Life Story" is now posted on the media page and my revisiting of "Individuality" is also available for download.
I've also made an addition to the 'idea' page. We've received a lot of emails about Revolution's doctrine since we began meeting last November. After much thought I've put together a comprehensive, though brief, list of ideas that those who call themselves believers at Revolution Charlotte can agree upon.
Last, check out the events calender because we're having another Revolution wedding!
Grace.

january 19, 2008

I know Sunday nights are supposed to be a time to wind down, go to bed early, and prepare for the dreaded 9 to 5 week to come, or just spend recovering from the night before. However, tomorrow night consider it your last chance to rock before you turn into a working stiff for the next five days. Revolution Charlotte's hosting a show with 25 Minutes to Go, our friends in country pop-punk band the Blacklist Royals from Nashville as well as Your Favorite Hero. Doors open at 8pm and it's only $6 at the door. It's going to be a great time, so you should be there.
We have some belated audio for you, dating back to days past, late 2007. On this Saturday evening snowed in (I use that term very loosely) we proudly present Jennifer's long awaited look at what the Bible says about homosexuality as well as Jonathan's talk on using grace wisely, truly appreciating grace, rather than relying on it as our fall-back. Hearing my two fellow pastors sharing their thoughts in person is always a learning experience, so I hope you enjoy what you hear, and really listen to what they have to say...it's good stuff.
Also, if you missed the orientation for Hands on Charlotte that Britni and Jennifer attended, Jonathan and I are signed up for the class on Monday, February 4th at 6:30pm. Spaces fill up quickly (our orientation time is already half full), so if you don't want to go it alone register and sign up to reserve your spot by clicking here.
Last Sunday we were happy to have Chip Harbin of The Victor Ministry come all the way from Statesville to share his "life story". I know you're excited about the audio from that service, so we'll have it up by the end of the week. Really.
Remember, tomorrow night, we're rockin at The Milestone.

Happy 2008! The holiday season has come and gone, and good news, we all survived. We've started off this year productively, sending out our very first newsletter, and uploading all of the audio from December. If you missed the newsletter, send an email to revolutioncharlotte@hotmail.com with "newsletter" in the subject line, or just click here.
We hope to see you all soon!

Hello again. 2007's quickly coming to a close, so it's that time of year...New Year's resolutions. I know we all want to lose a few pounds, quit smoking, or cut back on our PBR intake, but how about really doing something worthwhile this year? Revolution Charlotte has some great things planned for the new year, and one of those is stepping it up with community involvement. Britni's researched a great organization that helps to link volunteers with some local non-profits. The group is called Hands on Charlotte, and your Revolution Charlotte family's getting involved, and you can too. Contact Britni at KurlEQ317@aol.com or find her here on myspace.
In other news, this past week at Revolution was a bittersweet one. Long-time member of the Revolution family Owen Emmerson shared an amazing message with us before saying goodbye to NC. Owen is moving back to New York to continue ministry there and share the message of grace in the upstate. If you were fortunate enough to meet Owen you share the same sentiment, that he'll be greatly missed...
Lastly, the audio from the 25th has been posted. We'll get you caught up with the rest soon.
Grace.

Changes...
Last Wednesday, the staff of Revolution Charlotte met to discuss the new church year. Some changes have been made to the staff, but not to worry...we're expanding, with the most important changes being that Jennifer Faulkner has been named our assistant pastor and Britni is now the "first lady of the church". Also, Chris "The Terminator" Dean is now our media supervisor. These changes mean that you'll now be hearing from Jennifer more during our weekly services, Britni is our contact to other organizations such as area women's shelters and soup kitchens and other various duties that need her warm personality, and Chris will be making sure the website is updated correctly and in a timely manner. So now with more help, and more people investing in your church, it will an even better experience for you...and with that said, we truly hope to see you soon.
However, if making the trip to Charlotte's not possible for you, we've updated the media page and our podcast on itunes so you can be there, even if you can't...Enjoy!
Leaders of Revolution Charlotte,
Jonathan and Stephanie Hughes

It's always a whirlwind...
Can you believe we're approaching the holiday season already? (I'm hearing the groans from some of you, it's alright...) It seems like Jonathan and I just celebrated our one year wedding anniversary, but this past Sunday we celebrated the one year anniversary of Revolution Charlotte's first service. We've met a lot of people this year, some that have been in our lives for just an instant, some that have stayed around and helped to shape our ministry, us as ministers, and even Jonathan and I as people. Each of you that have dared to brave the west side, and those who have kept up with us online by downloading the weekly podcast, THANK YOU. You've made it the best year of my life by showing your support for something we believe in so much.
I've posted the audio from the past three weeks, so you get to hear from Jonathan, Ben and I...
We'll have the audio from yesterday online soon. Jennifer Faulkner spoke for our one-year service, and we wouldn't have had it any other way. Jennifer, who along with girlfriend, Britni, have quickly become two of our best friends, so of course it was fitting. We're looking forward to hearing from Jennifer more in this next year of Revolution, and after hearing what she has to say, you will too.
Thanks for giving us a chance, it's been a great year.
Jonathan and Stephanie

So a lot is happening in our little community...
The memorial service for Tammy Faye was wonderful. Over 300 of Tammy's family, partners in ministry, friends, and fans gathered at the Cathedral at Chapel Hill Church in Decatur, Georgia. Revolution Charlotte represented with eleven in our group making the trip. We laughed, shared stories, and sang some of Tammy's favorite hymns. Jay, Vince Anderson (of Revolution NYC) and Jonathan played an acoustic version of "When the Angels Sing" to end the service, and I may be biased, but it was just beautiful...
Jeremy Simmons, producer of The Eyes of Tammy Faye and One Punk Under God made a video montage as a tribute to Tammy's life. If you weren't able to attend the service, this gives you a pretty good idea of the life and ministry we were celebrating. We have a lot of great things coming up in the next few weeks that you should know about...
- This Sunday Revolution's having a wedding! Right after our 4pm service Rebecca Thompson and Eric Stiff will be getting married in the main room of The Milestone with Jonathan officiating. 25 minutes to go will be playing the "reception". It's going to be a great time, so come and celebrate with us.
- Next Sunday, October 28, Ben, our resident artist, is going to be speaking for our service. He's prepared something great for you again - so don't miss it.
- Wednesday, October 24, Revolution Charlotte is partnering with The Victor Ministry for another benefit show. Revolution Radio, 25 Minutes to Go, Dear Cavalier, and Fight Before Surrender will be playing at The Victor at 7pm. Admission is a 5 dollar donation and a canned good.
Lastly, the audio from the past few weeks has been posted. Hope to see you soon!

As a lot of you know, Tammy Faye's memorial service is coming up in a few weeks. The service will be held in Decatur, Georgia at Cathedral at Chapel Hill Church on Saturday October 6 at 6pm. D.E. Paulk, one of Jay's mentors and board members for Revolution will be officiating the celebration of Tammy's life. Jonathan, Jeremy, Kyle and I will be making the trip to Atlanta to spend time with Jay and represent the Revolution Charlotte family at the service. For more information or directions to the church visit mycathedral.org.
Alot of you have already signed the posters we had at our booth at Pride Charlotte that we'll be taking to display at the memorial, but if you haven't had the chance we'll have them at our services leading up to the 6th.
Also, we have lots of new audio uploaded for you...our little belated gift to you online listeners.
Grace.

august 28, 2007

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. At Revolution we had a great weekend. Jonathan and I had the opportunity to speak to the most people I've ever seen from a stage in my life on Saturday afternoon. We spoke briefly at the Pride Charlotte Festival to a huge crowd, just telling them how much God loves them and we love them at Revolution. It was a simple message, but something a lot of people in Charlotte have never heard from the church. We also set up a booth that a lot of you helped us with throughout the day, and we can't thank you enough for volunteering your time. We were able to meet so many people that were so encouraging, and truly grateful for the acceptance and love we offer instead of the hurt and condemnation they've felt from the traditional religious groups they'd been in contact with. All that, and we had the scariest booth of the day...

I know you've all missed the audio being posted for the past few weeks, but your wait's finally over. We have the audio from when Rebecca shared her story, the notes from Andrew's talk on tithing, and Jonathan's most recent thoughts on pride. We still have to re-record two weeks services to fill in the gap, but those will be posted soon. You've got some catching up to do anyways...
Enjoy living and loving others this week.
Stephanie

august 21, 2007

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, but life has been a whirlwind for the past few weeks...
First, thank you so much for coming out to Revolution and The Victor's charity event last month. With your help we were able to collect 193 canned goods for the Metrolina Food Bank and over $300 for one of Charlotte's battered women's shelters. You helped us to spread the message of love in a practical way. With the help of The Victor we're planning future events just like this one. If you have any ideas on how we can help the Charlotte community, please let us know.
Next, as a lot of you know (and have already volunteered your time to help) Revolution has a booth at Saturday's Pride Festival. Jonathan and I will also be speaking at 2pm, right after The Queen City Outlaws. Just remember, it's not too late to help staff our booth. If you want to let us know a specific time you'll be available to help, just email us or send us a message on myspace...or you can just show up, we'll be there all day. We'll be passing out information on Revolution and we'll have our merchandise available. But most importantly we'll be meeting people, and reaching out to a group that has been outcast by the church for too long. For more information on Pride, visit pridecharlotte.com.
Lastly, if anyone has visited Revolution, especially during the summer months, you can attest to the fact that mid-afternoon The Milestone can get pretty hot. We record all of our services on our laptop, but because of the temperature in the club, our computer tends to overheat. For the past three weeks we've lost the audio to the services. While Jonathan and I can re-record our talks (and we will have those for you by the end of the week), we had a guest speaker two weeks ago, Andrew, who is leaving soon to continue his education in Philadelphia. While we can't record that service over, we will post the notes he shared with Jonathan and I.
Please continue to keep Jay and his family in your prayers. For more information on memorials to Tammy and sending condolences to the family visit Tammy Faye's Website. Talk to you soon.

Don't forget...we're still rockin' on Sunday...it's how Tammy would have wanted it.

Also, the audio from last week's service has now been posted.

A message from Jay Bakker...

"After fighting cancer for eleven years, my mother passed away on July 20 at 4AM. She had a very peaceful death and is no longer in pain. To grant her wish she was cremated today and her ashes were buried at a private ceremony. The service was performed by my good friend Randy McCain of Open Door Community Church in Sherwood, AR.
Thank you to everyone for their prayers and support over the years - it has helped me more than you will ever know. Please continue to pray for her husband Roe as well as the rest of my family.
A public ceremony is currently being planned - an update will be sent once the details are finalized along with where to send flowers. I ask that all press would please allow me to grieve privately at this time. Thank you."

We here at Revolution Charlotte can credit our ministry to Tammy and the influence she and her family have had on our lives. She truly had a heart for people, and sharing God's love with everyone. We ask that you keep all of her family - Jay, Amanda, Tammy Sue, Roe, James and Jonathan - in your prayers - grieve with them, and support them in their loss, helping them heal. The battle is over, and Tammy, not her illness has won.
In the midst of pain, grace still abounds.
Jonathan and Stephanie

july 20, 2007

We have just over a week until Revolution Charlotte and The Victor's charity benefit. If there's anything you want to do to help send us an email or a message on myspace. Next Sunday will be a busy, hectic, fun afternoon/night - so if you want to get involved it's not too late.
Just keep promoting until the last minute...let's have a great turn-out and truly spread the message of grace we talk so much about by helping others in a practical way.
Finally, Jonathan's message from Sunday, "Don't Be Ruled..." is now online. Give it a listen.
July 29th. July 29th. July 29th.

Jonathan and I just got home from Atlanta today. As many of you know, Sarah Jones, longtime staff member of Revolution Atlanta, was having some pretty serious surgery yesterday. Jonathan and I made the trip down to be with her...it was the least we could do after all she's done for us - I truly believe Revolution Charlotte exists because of her. If it wasn't for Sarah opening up her home to us and giving us a place to stay I wouldn't have been able to do an internship with Revolution Atlanta, making the Charlotte church possible. Just to let everyone know, she came out of the surgery well - just keep her in your prayers through her recovery and the continual improvement of her health.
In other news, I hope you're all getting excited for the 29th...

If you weren't at the service on Sunday to pick up a packet of flyers courtesy of Danny print one of these out and give 'em to your friends, co-workers, pretty much anyone you know...or don't. Let's do our part to pack out The Milestone for a good cause.
Last...the audio from the past few weeks is now posted. Listen to Ben's talk from July 1st before you do anything else. Believe it or not it was his first time speaking in public. He did an amazing job, and he had some great things to say...So as the host from my favorite show 'Clean House' says "Alright, get to gettin'!"...you've got some catching up to do.
Grace.

june 25, 2007

It goes without saying that here at Revolution Charlotte we receive a lot of emails and myspace messages, both encouraging us in our ministry as well as hate mail (but that's to be expected and the good far outweighs the bad).
The past few weeks we've met a lot of new people, coming out of the woodwork, finding out about Revolution, and responding to the message of grace we share.
I was especially encouraged when a man named Ed Cooper sent Jonathan and I a poem he had penned after following the progress of Revolution Charlotte. I thought it was so beautiful I wanted to share it with all of you in the online Revolution community, so with his permission this is "When Grace Stopped By":

When Grace stopped by my darkened soul,
I wondered just how long Grace would stay.
I know that God made Grace possible,
Through the blood of His only Child.
That only made me feel more unworthy,
Of such a great and wondrous sacrifice.
My soul is so black that even I can not look,
For more than a few moments at a time.
Now Grace has stopped by,
I fear Grace will run away.
But you know she has stayed a few days,
And my soul seems lighter when I look.
What a grand day when I know Grace will stay,
And my soul will be white as snow.
Then when I look in the mirror of my soul I will see,
Not what the world sees but what God has always seen.

The more I learn about grace, the more it amazes me...Hallelujah.
As far as news goes, we'll have an amazing guest speaker this Sunday. Ben, Revolution Charlotte's resident artist, will be sharing with us this week. I for one am excited... P.S. - the audio from two weeks ago is now online; we're working on Sunday's service and it will be up soon. Enjoy. Oh, give a listen to MxPx's "Invitation to Understanding" - MxPx is by far my favorite band, even so I can't get enough of that song lately.
Grace.

A bit of brief news as Jonathan and I have to leave for work in fifteen minutes...
The audio from the past two weeks is now online, so now you have some catching up to do.
Jonathan finished a promotional flier for the show in July, so print one off and tell your friends.
Finally, check the events section for what else is coming up on the calendar.
Grace.

june 3, 2007

The audio from last Sunday has been posted in the media section as well as on itunes. We promise, we'll fill in the service gap by re-recording Jonathan's talk from last month soon...so never fear.
Thanks to all of you who have sent in orders for merch. We appreciate you supporting us and promoting not only Revolution Charlotte, but all three churches by wearing your t-shirts and plastering your car bumpers, lockers, etc. with stickers. You'll receive your orders soon - we promise you didn't get lost in the move.
If you've been going back and forth about attending a service, we'd love to see you soon. We just wanted to throw that out there...
Lastly a reminder - the 29th of July is drawing closer. We're still researching local charities for the benefit concert/cookout and we'll have some fliers for the event soon.
Go listen to our out-of-town guests for the show - Pearls Mahone and the OneEyed Jacks. I for one am ridiculously excited to see them play.
Grace. Period.

may 26, 2007

What a whirlwind the past week has been. Jonathan and I were out of town last weekend and drove straight into Charlotte last Sunday for service. We spent the weekend in Atlanta to celebrate my 23rd birthday, see old friends, and watch MxPx play at the Masquerade...we didn't get the memo that the show was cancelled...but we had a nice weekend together regardless.
This week was spent getting ready for Jonathan's mom's wedding, which was this morning. It was a beautiful ceremony, and the whole Revolution family should say congratulations to the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Pitts!
It looks to be another busy week for us, as we're moving on Wednesday. Keep us in your thoughts...I'm only minorly stressed.
Finally, two weeks of audio are now in the media section for you including guest speaker Kyle's talk from this past Sunday. Give 'em a listen. Grace and praises be.

may 10, 2007

The audio from april 29th is now online. We had a problem with the audio from last week, but Jonathan and I will re-record it and have it for you on Monday.
...Something to look forward to...Revolution Charlotte is partnering with The Victor Ministry for an event on July 29th. We're sponsoring a concert featuring 25 Minutes to Go (Jonathan's band), Revolution Radio, Pearls Mahone and the One Eyed Jacks, and an acoustic set by the staff of Revolution Charlotte...we'll let you guess who. Also - Jonathan and I will be speaking briefly as well as guest speakers Jay Bakker (founder of Revolution and pastor of Revolution NYC) and Chip Harbin (pastor of The Victor). All donations received will go to a local charity to be announced. It's only 5 bucks and a canned good at the door for admission AND we're grillin' out on The Milestone patio.
Just a reminder, we have NEW MERCH for sale. If you haven't been to our online store, check it out and buy some stuff. Or if it's not quite your style and you want to show your support for what we're doing in Charlotte we have a PayPal account set up for accepting donations. You don't have to have PayPal to donate, and as always anything you give is tax-deductible.
Last, an update on the house search. If you haven't heard, Jonathan's mom is getting married on May 26th (You can hear her fiance Kevin's message on the media page from when he spoke at Revolution a few months back). He's offered to rent his current home to us starting in June. That way we have a little more time to look for the home we'll eventually buy, and we're not locked in to renewing our lease for another year at our current residence.
As always, thank you everyone for supporting us, listening to the podcasts, and encouraging us. We can't say thanks enough.
Grace.
Pastors of Revolution Charlotte,
Jonathan and Stephanie

Believe it or not, life in Lincolnton can be busy (in case you didn't know Jonathan and I currently live in Lincolnton which is about 35 minutes from Charlotte...we commute weekly to Charlotte for services). We were hoping to move to Charlotte when the lease ran up on our house at the end of May, so we started the search to buy a home months ago. We still have a few prospects in mind, but we're unsure where we'll be June 1st. Couple the home search with work, Jonathan's band playing more, and the business side of running a nonprofit, plus "real" jobs - we're going non-stop. I for one would rather be busy than bored...just keep us in your prayers as we continually adjust to life.
That said...this, not the latter, is the most important part of our update (From revolutionatlanta.com):

"Christy Schroeder, a friend and past staff member of Revolution needs our prayers and her family needs our support. Christy’s mother was killed in a car accident on Sunday April 1.
Christy has 2 biological siblings and 6 adopted brothers and sisters, two of which have special needs. After raising their biological children the Schroeders began to adopt children who needed a home and loving family.
Now Mr. Schroeder stands alone to care for and raise his adopted children. God has laid on my heart a desire to come along side this brother and do what we can to help.
I put myself in his place and ask; what kind of help would I need? The answer is clear. I would need as much help as I could get with the kids so I could continue to work and support my family.
As you can imagine this kind of in home care will be expensive. That is why we are asking for your help. Please go to www.revolutionatlanta.com and give to support this worthy cause. We have set up special pay-pal account and EVERYTHING that goes to this fund will go directly to the Schroeder family."

To donate click here.
Revolution NYC has also set up a PayPal for donations for Christy and her family. If you can, donate. If you are unable to give financially and would like to send Christy and her family some encouragement, send us an email and we will forward your message to her.
Lastly, the audio from the past two weeks has now been posted...you have a lot of catching up to do, so get listenin'.

The audio from last week's service is now posted on itunes and Jeremy's bio can be found on the staff page.
Also, we've set up a link to accept donations online. If you follow Revolution Charlotte online and would like to contribute to our ministry, you can do so here.

In just a few hours we'll be meeting up at the ol' Milestone...the time is now 1:14am...The past week has been a good one for Jonathan and I. My parents came to their first Revolution service this past Sunday. I must admit that I was a little nervous, and I wasn't even speaking - but after visiting and meeting all of you they were so impressed and said they're so proud of what we're doing in the community.
Speaking of community, we're planning some great things for the summer. If you have any ideas for spreading the grace message in the queen city, or you want to share your personal journey of faith from atop The Milestone stage, we want to hear from you, because Revolution is your church.
In other news, the audio from last week's service has been posted. If you missed it have a listen.
Viva la Revolution.
Stephanie
P.S. - Don't forget about the guestbook or the Revolution (all 3 churches) message board. Get involved in the online community.

The service from March 11 has been re-recorded. It, along with this Sunday's service with special guest Chip Harbin, is posted in the media section as well as on itunes.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I don't really have a good excuse except the past few weeks have been so terribly busy and stressful I haven't had the time to sit down and work on the website. But hopefully some new audio will make things all better...
The audio from Kyle's talk is now posted on the media page as well as on itunes.
Sunday's service on "Unshakable Hope" will be posted soon. There was a problem recording on Sunday, so we'll try to "recreate" the service for you within the week.
In other news, new merch is in the works including a design Jonathan and I came up with just for you in Charlotte.
Finally, I hope you all will be able to come out Sunday to hear our good friend Chip Harbin of Statesville's The Victor Ministry share with us. I for one am excited...see you there.
Grace.

february 27, 2007

We were so excited Sunday to have guest speaker Kevin Pitts at service. He did a great job in front of our "tough" audience. You can find the audio on the media page or our home on itunes.
Don't forget - tonight Jay Bakker, founder of Revolution and pastor of Revolution New York will be speaking at The Victor Ministry at 7pm.
I want to encourage all of you Charlotteans (is that right?) to get involved with the Revolution Church message board. (There's now a link on the community page) Jonathan and I have recently started to become involved, and you should too. Let's promote not only a local community, but one between our spread-out congregations. Get to know members in the other cities that believe in the message of grace just as strongly as you do. Represent!
See you all tonight!
Grace.

The audio from Sunday is now online - go to the media section or visit our itunes page to download and listen.
I finally got around to making an "events calendar" for Revolution.
Here's the temporary link:
Events!
It will be incorporated into the website soon.
Just a reminder - we hope everyone can come out on Sunday to hear Kevin Pitts speak. AND Jonathan's mom is coming to the service, so represent.

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Instead of chocolates or flowers we have updates for you...the audio from Sunday is now online as is the audio from our visit to The Victor last night.
We really enjoyed the opportunity to speak at The Victor. Chip and all the folks in Statesville were very welcoming to us, and we look forward to going back for Jay's turn to speak at The Victor.
Here are a few dates to remember:
February 25 - Kevin Pitts will be our guest speaker at Revolution
February 27 - Jay is speaking at The Victor in Statesville - 7pm
March 4 - Kyle Perkins will be speaking at Revolution
March 18 - Chip Harbin of The Victor will be speaking at Revolution
Are Jonathan and I getting lazy you ask? No...Part of the idea of Revolution becoming more than a service is to involve the community in what we're doing. From partnering with other ministries to inviting guests to speak who are unable to be a part of Revolution on a weekly basis, we want Revolution to feel like your church - whether you are an online follower, are with us every week at The Milestone, or just believe in the grace message - because of you, our community is strengthened.
Show someone you love them today.
Grace.

Oops! The Gaston College Round Table is from 6-6:30pm tonight, so if you wait until 6:30 to tune in you'll miss it. 6 o'clock sharp tonight...91.7FM. Be there.

The audio from Sunday is now online.
Just a few reminders for you...listen in to 91.7FM on Monday at 6:30 for our appearance on The Gaston College Round Table AND let us know if you want to carpool to The Victor on Tuesday night for our speaking engagement...
I should probably work on an events calendar.
Last but not least - print this flyer and give a few to your friends.

See you Sunday.
Grace.

The audio from Sunday is now posted in the media section as well as on our itunes page. Just a reminder - don't forget about mine and Jonathan's interview on 91.7FM, and our two services with The Victor Ministry out of Statesville coming up this month. We're excited about what God's doing through Revolution Charlotte...thanks for being a part of it, we couldn't do it without you.

Two updates in one week...what?
I just added a guestbook for the website. Go to the Contact section to view it (it's empty as I'm writing this) and leave a message.

We're ahead of schedule this week - the audio from yesterday's service is now posted on the media page as well as Revolution Charlotte's page on itunes.
Also, Kyle's bio is now online. Check it out.
Thank you so much everyone for supporting us. We were just overwhelmed yesterday by your generosity - both monetary gifts, and the support you offer through your contacts in the community. We had been saving so we could buy a set of Bibles to use for services so everyone could follow along, but our good friend Danny donated a box of new Bibles for us. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. Now we'll be able to sow your donations back into the community and into our home, The Milestone.
Jonathan has announced the past few weeks about upcoming events, but like us - things just tend to be remembered more when they're written down, so here we go:

- Monday, February 12 - Jonathan and Stephanie will be featured on WSGE (91.7FM Gaston College Radio) on The Gaston College Round Table from 6-6:30pm to discuss Revolution Charlotte

- Tuesday, February 13 - Jonathan and Stephanie are speaking at The Victor Ministry in Statesville, NC

- Tuesday, February 27 - Jay Bakker, Revolution NYC, will be speaking at The Victor Ministry

If you want to attend either of The Victor services send us an email or myspace message!

Grace.

A bit of news for you...Revolution Charlotte has selected Neal Harper, owner of The Milestone, to represent our branch of the church on Revolution's Board of Directors. Since we started Revolution Charlotte we've said that Neal worked harder than any of us, and we could think of no one to better represent us.
Services have been going really well. The press from The Charlotte Observer has brought a lot of new people to Revolution, so much that we've almost run out of chairs! We're meeting in the "bar" area of The Milestone now - it's a little more intimate, and we definitely enjoy the atmosphere, so come check us out in our "new" place.
"One Punk Under God" wrapped up on Wednesday. However, you can catch up on any of the episodes you missed on itunes. Blink and you could miss Jonathan and I...
Last, Jonathan's band has two shows next weekend. On Friday (1/26) you can see 25 minutes to go at Revolution's home, The Milestone, and on Saturday (1/27) they'll be playing at The Underground in Hickory.
See you soon.
Grace.

Jonathan and I just finished up a meeting with all of the Revolution board. We definitely learned a lot in the past three hours, and I for one am even more grateful to be a part of what Revolution is all about. I'm truly blessed to be associated with such an amazing group of people.
Service on Sunday was crazy. Thanks to all of you who came out...if we didn't get a chance to meet you, hopefully we'll get to see you in a few days. Thanks for giving us a chance if it was your first service. If you missed the reason why our little space at The Milestone was so crowded Sunday, you can read the Charlotte Observer's feature on Revolution Charlotte, "Coming Back to God", here.
Also, the audio from Sunday is now online. "Hero Worship"...check it out.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years celebration. Anyone make any ambitious resolutions and already break them? Mine's to actually keep this thing updated...
Revolution's last service of 2006 was probably the best service yet. Our friend Kyle Perkins (usher of the ghetto fortress) gave a great talk and we met some new friends...it was a good time. The audio is posted in the media section and on our brand new podcast page on itunes...imagine that.
In other news, Creative Loafing published a feature on Revolution Charlotte last week. If you missed it, you can read the article here.
Hope to see you all Sunday...or perhaps sooner.
Grace.
Stephanie (and Jonathan)

Sorry for neglecting all you website-goers, but the holidays have been crazy. (That's no excuse, but that's all you get.) Jonathan and I had an amazing first Christmas as husband and wife. I hope yours was equally fabulous.
Though Revolution Charlotte took the day off for Christmas eve, we will have service this Sunday (12/31) at the usual 4pm time complete with a surprise guest speaker, or our good friend Kyle Perkins. Yes, the name alone will draw more of a crowd than just saying a "surprise". Come show Kyle some support because he really has a great talk planned. I for one am very excited because I've read his notes and have reason to be. Come say goodbye to 2006 with Revolution.
Grace.

Somehow I'm always more amazed at the way the message of grace is spreading through Revolution Church. The response Jonathan and I have received from people all across the United States because of the MTV piece has been overwhelming, so much so that we had to share a few messages we had received during service this past week. The audio is posted in the media section. I hope you will be blessed as much as we were, because after all Revolution's not just our church - it exists because of your support.
I hope everyone caught the premiere of One Punk Under God last night. If not, you have a few more chances: saturday @ 2am; sunday @ 12:35am; sunday @ 2pm; monday @ 8:30pm; tuesday @ 6pm
Concluding, RevolutionNYC sent out their newsletter...join their mailing list so you can receive future updates (and so we can make you a part of the captive audience as well).
Grace.

The MTV piece aired yesterday morning early. I updated our myspace with the times, but forgot to update here. Sorry! But all hope is not lost. The news feature can be found here: MTV News: Revolution Church
We've received a positive response so far and we're definitely grateful for the coverage MTV gave us...so thanks to producer Alex for not making us look like beer swilling, tattooed fanatics.
Also, more media...Sunday's audio is now online. Give it a listen.
Lastly, keep on the lookout for "One Punk Under God" on Sundance Channel starting December 13. Get more info here and watch clips from the first episode.
Yes, in case you were wondering, Revolution IS taking over the world.
Grace.

It's the early morning before Revolution service yet again, so obviously I'm a little slack on updating. The week's been a whirlwind, so I apologize for the delay in posting last Sunday's service. Jonathan spoke on "Beginner's Christianity" for his "inaugural talk". I hope you'll take the time and listen to what he had to share. Continue to keep Revolution Charlotte in your thoughts, as well as all the pastors in the Revolution family. I, for one, need an extra measure of grace this week.
Through it all, praises be.
Stephanie
P.S. - The MTV News story documenting Revolution Charlotte's first service will be airing this week...actually tomorrow (Monday). As soon as we know what time it will air we will let you know, but I have a pretty good guess that it's "10 to the hour, every hour"...

november 22, 2006

We held our second service at The Milestone Club on Sunday afternoon at our new 4pm time. Stephanie spoke on her personal journey to find grace and the service audio is now posted on the media page. Also, the community page is updated with some links to friends in the Charlotte area. We hope to keep our community growing, so we would love to see you this Sunday (we're not taking a break for the holiday). Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and we'll see you soon.
Leaders of Revolution Charlotte,
Jonathan and Stephanie Hughes

november 13, 2006

Services are now underway. Revolution Charlotte had its first meeting yesterday at The Milestone Club. We were so excited to have 34 people come out. Jay spoke on the heart of Revolution, meeting people where they were at with a message of grace. The audio is posted in the brand new media section!
If you were at the service yesterday, no, Jonathan and I don't usually have cameras following us around...that was a crew from MTV News, who will be running a story on Revolution Charlotte in the coming weeks. We'll let you know when it's going to air.
Thanks so much to everyone who was able to come yesterday (and to Neil, owner of the club, for such hospitality!). We hope to see you all again this Sunday at 4pm at The Milestone.
Grace.

Revolution Charlotte's first service is this Sunday! After a brief introduction from us, Jay Bakker, pastor of Revolution NYC, will be speaking. So if you've never heard Jay speak, or it's been a while please come out. We're so excited about meeting all of you. See you Sunday at 3!
Leaders of Revolution Charlotte,
Jonathan and Stephanie Hughes

In other news, the commercial for One Punk Under God has been posted.
The show airs Sunday nights beginning December 13th.

After months of planning and gathering support we're so excited to announce our first service! Revolution Charlotte's first scheduled meeting is Sunday, November 12, 2006, 3pm, at The Milestone Club. A huge thanks to Neil and Rachel the "Milestone Queen" for opening up the space to us and giving us a chance. So, Revolution Charlotte is officially here. Tell your friends. We hope to see you there.

I'm the worst at updating ever, but things have been slow-going until this point. From now on there will be more news to report. Jay has been in town this weekend. Last night after going to our usual spot for greasy cheeseburgers and an unmatched jukebox we took Jay over to our potential meeting place for Revolution Charlotte. After meeting with the owner last night, it's official...this church has a home. We'll be meeting at The Milestone Club starting in late November. If things go well, it will be where we meet permanently. We'll post the definite start date soon. Also...Jonathan's bio is finally up...that's it.

Revolution Charlotte is gaining momentum. We have been promoting the upcoming services (date and time still to be announced) through the myspace community as well as at various events we have attended. We've had some unexpected people to join us in our mission, so we may just have some support after all. Thanks to everyone who has expressed interest so far...we can't thank you enough for believing in us.
The website is also almost complete.
Stephanie's bio is up now, and Jonathan's will be finished soon.

Finally...revolutioncharlotte.com is up and running. There's still some things we need to add (staff bios) and some bugs to work out because i'm no html genius but for the most part everything's here.
Thanks for giving us a chance.
